Dressing Equipments of Taconite

Dressing process of taconite:

Mining process: Ordinarily, this process is performed at the mine, during which one or two stages of crushing is covered.

Crushing Screen process: Owing to the high hardness of taconite ore, up to four stages of dry-crushing are required. Gyratory crushers are generally used for primary crushing, and cone crushers are used for secondary and tertiary fine crushing. Intermediate vibrating screens remove undersize material from being sent to the next crusher and allow for closed-circuit operation of the fine crushers.

An alternative to crushing is to feed some coarse taconite ores directly to wet or dry semi- autogenously or autogenously grinding mills (grinding larger pieces of the ore to smaller pieces), then to pebble or ball mills.

Grinding process: The size of the taconite ore is further reduced by wet grinding in rod mills or ball mills. While it is ground to a particle size which is sufficiently close to the grain size of the iron-bearing mineral, a high degree of mineral liberation is allowed.

Beneficiation Process: Because taconite ore contains high content of iron, magnetic separator is the most commonly used methods for concentrating taconite. For non-magnetic taconite ores are concentrated by froth flotation or by a combination of selective flocculation and flotation.
